HSE to prosecute film company after Star Wars incident
Harrison Ford suffered a broken leg and other injuries when he was struck by a heavy hydraulic metal door on the set of the Millennium Falcon.
Although a film set is a glamorous place, it is still a place of work and machinery, etc., has to be well maintained and regularly serviced. It doesn’t matter what the work place equipment is – from a forklift truck to the Millennium Falcon, regular maintenance is required and not just when it breaks down.
Some equipment has specific legislation and guidance concerning inspection and maintenance, such a lifting equipment and road vehicles. For others employers need to carry out a suitable risk assessment and follow the manufacturer’s guidance.
To help, we have produced a brief list of some statutory inspections you might find helpful which is free to down load from our website. www.hygiene2health.co.uk
